Solid Edge is a hybrid 2D/ 3D parametric design system developed by Siemens. Main features include product, sheet metal and assembly modeling as well as drafting. NX is a suite of integrated CAD, CAM, CAE and PDM applications which aids in the entire product development process starting from conception to manufacturing.

GIS (geographic information systems)

A Geographic Information System (GIS) is any system that captures, stores, analyzes, manages, and presents data that are linked to location. Technically, a GIS is a system that includes mapping software and its application to remote sensing, land surveying, aerial photography, mathematics, photogrammetry, geography, and tools that can be implemented with GIS software. Still, many refer to "Geographic Information System" as "GIS" even though it doesn't cover all tools connected to topology.

Solidworks

Solidworks is a 3D mechanical CAD software that aim to provide engineers, designers and other creative professionals with the tools necessary to develop and improve their designs in less time and with few money. To achieve this the program count with a simulation process that virtually test designs to real world conditions; a product data management that help to keep all the data of the work organized, and a 3DVIA composer that keep the documentation in sync with the design changes.

Paracloud GEM & Modeler

Brief Description:
ParaCloud is a pattern modeler. It is divided into 2 parts: ParaCloud Modeler and ParaCloud Gem. ParaCloud Modeler powers design tools with behavior modeling and performance-driven design capabilities increasing design and production efficiency. Based on a multi-layered matrix concept, ParaCloud is an innovative platform for n-dimensional data modeling and analysis. It creates a bi-directional link between numeric and graphic representations and allows driving multiple representations from a single logical model. ParaCloud bridges between various software used in a project and allows for poly-logical driven generative modeling. ParaCloud extend your software capabilities with minimal changes to working habits and defines a new way of communication replacing the import/export approach. On the other hand, ParaCloud GEM is a 3D Pattern Modeler. It was created to provide a simple approach forgenerating complex and rich 3D models without resorting to scripting of any kind (yepp, not even "Spaghetti Wiring"). 3D Pattern Modeling is a new approach towards generativedesign. solidThinking is a 3D modeling and rendering software, developed by solidThinking Inc. It is a CAID (Computer Aided Industrial Design) software, i.e. software developed to meet the specific needs of industrial designers and style centers who need a flexible software to blend aesthetics and ergonomics with functionality in the form of cars, watches, bottles, jewels, mobile phones, product packaging, all of the designed objects that surround us.

solidThinking is mainly used for industrial design by manufacturing industries and professional designers and architects but it also finds a user base in computer graphics.

Modeling is based on NURBS curves and surfaces and, thanks to the program's Construction History or Construction Tree, any modeled shape immediately updates while objects, points, or parameters are modified. All the steps involved in construction are saved inside the file and is accessible at any time allowing the designer to experiment and invent new shapes. solidThinking also features polygonal modeling with subdivision surfaces.

FreeCAD

FreeCAD is a general purpose 3D CAD modeler. The development is completely Open Source (GPL & LGPL License). FreeCAD is aimed directly at mechanical engineering and product design but also fits in a wider range of uses around engineering, such as architecture or other engineering specialties.

SketchUp is a 3D modeling program designed for architects,
civil engineers, filmmakers, game developers, and related professions.
First released in August 2000 as a general purpose 3D content creation tool, with the tagline "3D for Everyone" and envisioning a software "that would allow design professionals to draw the way they want by emulating the feel and freedom of working with pen and paper in a simple and elegant interface, that would be fun to use and easy to learn. Google acquired SketchUp on March 14, 2006, attracted by SketchUp work developing a plug-in for Google Earth. Since then in the Goggle Earth itself can be found thousands of 3d models of important buildings all around the world which help getting a better understanding of space in 3dimensions.

SketchUp version 7 the latest version has incorporated new interfaces some of them you will find described in this booklet.
